Appearing to splash right out of ancient legends, the Narwhal makes its home in the cold waters of the Arctic. The scale model Monterey Bay Aquarium® collection was designed in collaboration with scientists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. The Aquarium’s mission is to encourage awareness and conservation of the oceans and their abundant life, a commitment shared by Safari Ltd®. Along with being professionally sculpted, each replica is individually hand painted, creating realism that can usually only be found by seeing these remarkable creatures up close. The scale of this set ranges from 1:20 to 1:50. Educational Information
These “unicorns of the sea” spurred medieval mystery.During medieval times, traders used narwhal “horns” to prove the existence of the magical, mythical unicorn. Today, we know that the male narwhal’s “horn” is actually a twisted tooth, or tusk. What we don’t know is how the narwhal uses its tusk—some say it’s for jousting when competing for females, while others believe the tusk helps a narwhal send the sounds it makes.
